Love the summer holiday

It's near the end of our 2nd week of school holiday. We're enjoying the late mornings and lazy days. We visited mormor (grandma) at her summerhouse wich is by the beach. We went for a swim (or the kids and mormor did) I just enjoyed the view and the lovely breeze. The kids collected loads of rocks and painted them back at the summerhouse.
This was Tuesday. Wednesday was stormy, rainy and sooooo cold. Today it feels like October. We want the summer back and hoping it'll happen soon. Until then we'll keep eye on all garden things as it's really windy out there....

Midsummer.

Yesterday was midsummer and here in Denmark it's celebrated with bon fires everywhere. We even put a witch at the top to burn. No, of course not a real one! But I do agree it's weird.... Anywho, we went with the children to the nearest beach to watch. It was lovely.
Friday the children's summer holiday starts. 6 weeks where I don't have to set the alarm for 05.55am. Love it.

Oh forgot to show our 2 new garden gnomes. Aren't they cute??

We're back home.

After 16 days away we're back home. Tuesday night we came back after 8 hours in the car travelling up through Germany. The day before we had tralleved 8 hours as well from Nana and Papa's house in Hertfordshire through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany to our hotel in Essen. I will write another post later with tips on driving long distances with younger children, what works for us that is.

Anyway it's nice to be home again. The weather is warm here but today it has rained all day. Do I dare say I have enjoyed the rain.... We have relaxed inside watching tv and we're nearly (not even close) to be completely unpacked. The princess has lined up all her birthday presents on the floor in her room. The little man has yet to empty his backpack with his holiday stuff. I guess he will when misses what ever toys are in there.

Back to our lovely holiday in England. This year we couldn't have asked for better weather and as we had already planned a 3 day trip to Brighton after the princess' birthday, we were so happy to go there in the heat. We haven't been since I was pregnant with princess so 8 years ago that is, but it was as lovely there as we remembered. The children went swimming, spent their pocket money on all kinds of rubbish, arcade games and a big stripy rock each. We met our good friends and their gorgeous children and spent the day with them. We had fish and chips on the pier and the daddy took the little man and princess up in the big wheel so they could look out over the sea and Brighton. Because we now have the Luggie for me, it was possible for us to go away just the 4 of us. Look below for pictures of our lovely time in Brighton.

In the big pile of post on the kitchen table when we came back Tuesday was this book. I had made it before we left and was to blog about it on my Danish blogs when it arrived. Well, I thought I might as well mention it here too as it is so cool and we just love it. Also with an impatient person like me, when it comes to technical things can make it, everyone can. I made it here and used this format. (just click England at the bottom to change the website to English).

Wow, the time flies when you're having fun.

So blogging suffers as tiredness kicks in when the children are in bed. Which at the moment is at least an hour later than normal. We're half way through the 2nd week of their school holiday and have already done so much. We need days with nothing on the agenda but that's not happening soon. It's okay as we're all happy and with the weather being amazing, it's just a delight it's holiday time.

There's been several dinners consumed outside, water pistol fights, fun with moster's (aunty's) dog, sleeping to 8am which I appreciate so much, cuddles with Muffin the cat, helping daddy check oil on the car, watching Murray win Wimbledon (which was sooooooo exciting) and the princess is off to mormor's (grandma's) summerhouse on a mini holiday, just her. The little man will have his mini holiday there when we're back from our holiday in England.
I've heard the weather is amazing so Hertfordshire here we come (Monday next week) and we expect the weather to stay amazing.... Did you hear me weather man???

Well, here's some Instagram moments and I hope you'll forgive me my lack of blogging. I can't even promise you I willl shape up, sorry. It's holiday and time just seems to fly so I have too little time but at lot of fun!

The big truck....

Sunday cousin M celebrated he had finished college. Tradition here in Denmark is you get to drive around visiting everyone's house in a truck or bus. They only stay 10 minutes at each house just enough time to have drink, a little food and a much needed visit to the loo. Then they're off again to the next house.
They put flowers and balloons on the truck or bus and loud music is playing as they drive from house to house.
Cousin M's truck arrived with Gangnam Style playing loudly. While all the young people hurried inside,  the little man and princess got to sit in the truck and test the horn....
BEEP BEEP...

Map of the World.

I wished for one and got one! We love looking at it and when I find the right size pins we'll pin all the places we've been. Each of us have our own colour and as a family we'll have one so we can pin where we've been. Either alone, together, as a family and in years to come I imagine the princess and little man will pin places they've been without mummy and daddy.
The little man loves looking at the little flags at the bottom of the map, one for each country in the world. He knows a lot of them which the Euros and the Olympics this summer helped along.

We have 2 atlases which we do look in every so often but having the whole world hanging on the wall at the childrens height is better. We talk about countries, flags, football teams, people and lots more when we look at it. Being a mixed family of Danish/British maybe the interest is bigger, I don't know!!??

Do you have an atlas or a map in your house??

Finally....

Summer is here! Lets make the most of it then. So we did, today in the garden.

The 'pool' might be small but their imagination is big! They saw fish, crabs and things I've never heard of before.
Tomorrow, the weatherman is promising weather like today but even warmer. Do we dare trust his words!?!

Are you enjoying your summer wherever you are?

2 weeks and we're off to Disneyland.

As from tomorrow morning at 8am, there's excactly 2 weeks untill we start driving towards Disneyland. Thought it might be a good idea to invest in a dvd player for the car. It's a long drive down to Paris. I easily convinced myself we could not live without these portable dvd players, they don't just play dvd's they also play CD's so really no excuse not to get them, eh!? Føtex had them on offer so off the daddy went! He got one in pink for the princess and a black one for the little man. Both with a strap that attach it to the front seat and headphones so they can watch their film in peace and we can be spared the sound.
Also, they don't always want to watch the same film. Well, we'll not have to have that argument now will we! Of course, another one could start instead as suddenly they have to watch the same film just because.... No, not even that can ruin my excitement. 2 weeks woop woop, I can't wait!!

Beach Style!

A day at the beach last summer. The beach is only ten minutes from our house and we do go there in all kinds of weather. Thought it had to be a sunny picture from there for you to see. There were lots of little harmless jellyfish in the water that day, which made the little man and the princess a bit wary of going in the water.

Sun-Shining-Summer-Sunday-Suddenly-Showed....

.... up! Sorry ran out of words starting with S that I could use.
Here in tiny Denmark the sun has been shining from a clear blue sky since we got up this morning. It's warm and so lovely. We've been wearing summer clothes again and been bare foot. The little man asked after lunch if he should wear shoes outside or just feet. Ah.. just feet is fine honey:) Oh, and if we could call him Stanley from now, please (from the film Cars).
Autumn started nearly a month ago and suddenly the weather decides to be all summery.... Apparently next week should be sunny and warm here, and come the weekend (already October then) it's supposed to be really nice and warm. That's good for the princess though because her school has a themed week from tomorrow. They work across the classes and make all sorts of stuff. Saturday is a school day for the children and family come to see what they've been up in the week.
It's now close to bedtime and the little man, ups sorry, Stanley and the princess are relaxing watching Wizard of Oz.

A summerday at the beach.

This is the beach closest to where we live. Only 10 minutes away.

Playing and relaxing in the sand.... It's lovely and that I do love! Not so happy though when we then bring back the whole (okay nearly the whole...) beach. Sand everywhere in the house!

4 more days and we're off to England.

Not long now then we are going on holiday. We're staying at nana and papa's house as usual. They always spoil us. I can't wait to have chocolate Eclaires and Indian take away.... I think donuts are very high up on my daughter and her daddy's list. Shoe shopping is very high up on my list. Okay shopping in general really.....!!!

This week the children and I are just pottering about... We went to see morfar (Danish for grandad) He let us pull up some of his home grown carrots. Hard work it looks like pulling those carrots up. Luckily their cousin helped out....

Flip Flop Happiness.....

I bought my children flip flops for only £3.50 a pair. Aaaahhh what joy they brought with them. Especially my son was sooooo excited. He put his flip flops on straight away..... come bedtime refusing to take them off!!! So he slept with them on....
As happy as my daugther was with her flip flops, she's too cool to join in with the sillyness that it surely is to sleep with them on!!!!
They both insisted on wearing them this morning, which was fine inside but too cold outside. So as popular as I was yesterday when I gave them the flip flops, was I unpopular this morning..... We eventually agreed to bring them and they could wear them inside at school and nursery!
