Yesterday it was back to school so no time for tv and a nice cup of tea in the morning. The picture is from Wednesday morning last week when it was half term.
Both the princess and the little man were looking forward to going back to school though. They both love school and had missed their friends. Also they the princess was off to see the musical Chicago with her dancegroup last night. It's one of the teachers from the dance/drama/sing company where she dances that was directing the musical. All the kids got to go backstage and then see the dress rehearsel afterwards. She was home late for a school night but it very rarely happens so we agreed it was okay. She's promised to not be moody this morning and she did keep her promise. She's up, dressed and eating her cereal.
Oooh, I finished my 22nd book this year. I'll make that a post for tomorrow or Thursday. It's a good book.
Have you had a good weekend?

Midsummer.
Yesterday was midsummer and here in Denmark it's celebrated with bon fires everywhere. We even put a witch at the top to burn. No, of course not a real one! But I do agree it's weird.... Anywho, we went with the children to the nearest beach to watch. It was lovely.
Friday the children's summer holiday starts. 6 weeks where I don't have to set the alarm for 05.55am. Love it.
Oh forgot to show our 2 new garden gnomes. Aren't they cute??

Just so you know I'm still here.......
Because life is busy. Gymnastic classes after school - Drama classes too. Homework and playdates are often so the blog is not looked after very well. But I'm still here....

Yet another fun afternoon at the library.
The little man headed straight for the iPad. The princess for the art table but soon after the little man joined her. The princess found new books to read. She has at this exact moment read 9961 pages and will tomorrow reach the 10.000 pages mark which means that Tuesday next week at morning assembly the Headmaster will hand over a backpack and say well done. I'll show pictures of that next week.

Elvis came and went....
And he did soooo well both at the dress rehearsal Wednesday and at the big night Friday. The little man aka "Elvis" mimed and danced to Jailhouse Rock in front of 300 people. He was brilliant! After the show Friday there was a party and the little man and princess danced the night away or until it finished at 8pm!

So dissapointed....
So Nana and Papa came to visit from England on Tuesday. It was a long-planned visit because the children's school was doing a show. The little man was singing and walking with candles, it's called Santa Lusia, and the princess was singing with her class and the school choir. Nana and Papa are here to watch but then the storm decided to come.... Bodil it's called but who cares about the name, the stupid storm has made the school cancel the show. The children are upset and angry - The show has been postponed to next Wednesday but how's that gonna help?? By then Nana and Papa will be back in England. We'll film it all and send it over but still... We planned for them to come and talked about it for so long and now they'll miss the show because Mother nature decides to play up!
I'm not impressed nor are the children or Nana and Papa!
Oh, and who thought Bodil would be a good name for the storm??

One tooth less....
Out it came at school and I got a beaming smile when I picked up the little man. The tooth was lost in the sandpit though and 16 little 6 year olds and their teacher could not find it....

The one with yet another birthday party.
11 girls and boys came at 10am and the little man span the bottle so they all got to hand over their present one by one. The weather was great so we put blankets in the garden and they enjoyed a cupcake before they played. The princess had a trail of little girls after her and was amazing with them.... The boys made a huge train track, played on the trampoline and shot a few hoops.
At lunch time we sat them on blankets in the garden again, so much easier for us when it came to tidying up. Then it was time for the treasure hunt which the princess and the daddy were in charge of. They had just finished when it was time to be picked up again. They were all very well behaved and it was lots of fun, the little man had enjoyed his party he told us. Well, that's nice isn't it? We enjoyed it too but i must admit I'm tired now and looking forward to bedtime.

Tomorrow the little man is 6... Can you believe it?
Well, I certainly can't! My little boy is 6 years old, in school and growing with a speed that's frightning. Today he helped me bake cup cakes to bring to school tomorrow. It's for his class and teacher. They'll enjoy them after morning assembly where the whole school will sing happy birthday for him. He's very excited! Just look at my little big chef in his appron... Where did the time go?
He's in bed now, sound asleep and the daddy and I have decorated the house with flags (that's what we do here in Denmark) and balloons. He can have a few presents in the morning and then we'll be celebrating with the grandparents and great aunty after school. I'm sure there'll be more pressies and a birthday song too.

First day of school.
The little man started school today. The princess too but she's been going to school for 2½ years now. When I dropped her off this morning she hardly had time to say goodbye.... Just a quick "see you, mummy" and no kiss!
We were with the little man today for his first day, they are only there a couple of hours. From tomorrow it's normal school day for him too but today it was special. Red carpet, flags and all....

This is it....
Last day of school holidays. Monday it's back to school and from now on I have 2 school children. No more babies, they have grown up! A bit too quickly though...
Anyway, we have had a lovely summer holiday and the children are soooo ready for school. Or is it me who's ready for them to go back?? No, I'm sure they miss their friends and teachers. The little man had 4 months in school before the holiday started and loved it. The children got to meet their teacher, class mates, they had time to get to know the school, how things work and got to know each other. He is very excited and so ready to start Monday but am I....?
We spent today going to our Library. We love it there and the princess had to change all the books she's been reading in the summer holidays. She's very close to reaching 5000 pages read which means she'll be given a t-shirt at school. She reads 10 pages or more a day and we write it down in her reading log and sign it. She's very excited to show it to her teacher on Monday.
Soon it's the little man as well. I love the reading program they have at school and are so happy the princess loves reading. I hope the little man will be as keen as her, today it was the sensory boxes at the Library that attracted his attention the most - counting how many of himself he could see..... The princess went straight for the art work after choosing new books.

School's out for the summer...
It's been raining all day so it doesn't feel like holiday just yet. That doesn't mean we can't treat ourself to ice cream for dessert, does it?

Circus with the little man as lion and the princess as gymnastic girl!!
Yesterday at school, it was the princess' 3rd time and the little man's first time. They were so good and very cute. I got pictures but they're not the best because there were so many parents, grandparents, young siblings and a forest of mobile phones used to take pictures of the little stars. So the lack of room and the zoom made the pictures somewhat blurry but at least I got some.

Another sleepover....
This time at school! Friday afternoon, 12 very excited 7-8 year olds showed up with their sleeping bag in tow. I had promised the princess that I would stay over this year too. I didn't last year !
We were 3 mums staying overnight, a couple of dads helping during the evening until the children fell asleep.
They had had a great evening with hotdogs outside for dinner, playing until the sun went down behind the trees, then they went inside and kept playing until they were presented with a bag of sweets each and Madadgacar 3 was put on the big screen! Suddenly all were quiet and only the rustling of sweet paper was to be heard.
The film finished and they all jumped into their pjs and brushed their teeth. They were tired and happily snuggled up in their sleeping bags, 11.10pm they all were asleep. I managed to get a bit of sleep before 5.30am when the first ones woke.
We had arranged for the parents to pick up their little ones at 8am which was a good call..... We had had a great time but were all very tired and ready to go home. It's so lovely to see the class together and see how well they play and get along. I'm glad that us parents agree this is an event that should happen every year and the school happily lets us have the school all to ourselves for the night.
Do your children's classes do such events too??

"Daddy, when you're 45 years old you have to become a baker"
"Because you're so good at baking"
The daddy grew at least 10 centimetres after that little statement from the little man. So I think some of this long weekend will be spent baking a few cakes. I have written about the daddy's baking skills before here and here as you might have read.
Tomorrow is bank holiday here in Denmark and the weather is supposed to be nice so YEAH!!! So I think a trip to the nearby big park and the daddy baking when we're back, might just be the best after 4 weird weeks with closed schools. The schools are finally back though and it's about time, and by this stage I don't care at all who's right or wrong. All I care about is that the princess is back at school on Monday. Also I don't want to moan about it anymore, I have spent way too much time doing that the last 4 weeks. It's over, schools are back and life returns to normal!
So tonight the princess has a friend here for a girly sleepover, the little man is being spoilt at mormor's (Grandma's) and the daddy is watching football! I think I'll just relax....

He saved Snow White.....
As you can read in my previous post, the little man wanted to be the prince and got the role! All week they have practiced and he has been vey excited.
Today was the big premiere but the little man was suddenly a bit teary and concerned, wanting to be reassured we'd be back to watch him at 10.10am. Of course we were and Snow White was performed but it was a very reluctant prince that walked on stage (with a little help from his teacher) to save Snow White.

Snow White!
Me: "Who will you be?"
The little man: "The prince!"
"Has your teacher told you that?"
"No, but I want to be the prince!"
"I know honey, but it might not be you"
"It will because I WANT to be the prince!!!"
This went on for a little bit and to be honest, I was preparing all sorts of comforting words if or when the little man came home from school in tears. He didn't because he is the prince..... He obviously charmed his way to the top!
Me: "So do you have to kiss the the princess to wake her?"
The little man giggling: "Of course not! I just tickle her gently on the cheek"
Yeah, that's probably a better choice for a bunch of 5 year olds. Never the less, we're so excited to see the little man on stage on Friday.

Still no school.... Believe it or not but the children miss it!
It's well into the second week of the school lock out here in Denmark. The princess is not enjoying it, she misses school, her teachers, her friends and the routine of the week days. I'm doing my best to have as many activities planned as possible, and structure. Playdates with friends from school and library visits are some of the things we do. Like the other days when the princess has had friends here, today the chosen game was to play "school". I printed out some maths things for them to do and they read books to each other. This is their choice and not me telling them to do school things which I think shows how much they miss school. There's still no news on when schools will be back and that's really frustrating for us all.
Luckily our local library is brilliant with lots of creative stuff to do. Monday I took the princess and her friend there.....
