"That's pretty, can I have it?"

The princess asked when she saw my Christmas present from her aunty.
It's a lovely pen which goes very well with the lovely diary her aunty also gave me. The answer was "No". Not quite the answer she wanted. "Can I have it when you die then?" Not the question I expected my 6 year old to ask just yet but I guess we can make a note!
This will be the last blog in 2011. Thank you all for reading my blog and for your lovely comments.
I wish you all a very Happy New Year!
here we come.....!!

Hair cuts!

The little man has such cute golden brown curls, so no need to cut his hair too short is there...?

The other day he looked at his daddy and said "I want hair like you, daddy" I straight away got teary, couldn't breathe.... "NO" I wanted to scream. His dear daddy has very short hair and yes, it suits him but no way my little boy is having that!!! The daddy then thought he'd stir things a bit. "Just wait, you'll come home one day and it's all gone!" Well, that's not gonna happen..... Even if it results in me not allowing the little man any alone time with his daddy. I will not have his curls cut off! Why...? Because he looks so cute and if (okay when) he is a bit naugthy, other people will find it difficult not to think he is cute even when he has a tantrum in public! (yes it does happen...) Is that such bad parenting.....! Of course not, we all do it.

Family photo.

Thought we better get one of those done this Christmas. It actually came out okay I think.
Today it's the last day of the daddy's few days off, for now anyway! The princess, little man and I still have holiday and in 2 days time Nana and Papa arrive! Yeah!!
Sound of Music is on tv as it is every Christmas here in Denmark. I love it and am trying to get the princess and little man interested. They're not quite ready yet but come running when they hear the singing. They love the songs as do I and this is my favourite.
What films do you watch at Christmas time?

He came, he did!

The Father Christmas that is! So exciting and lots of screams from the little man and the princess.
They were both so patient all day yesterday waiting for all the shenanigans to start. We had lovely dinner, then danced around the Christmas Tree before we finally got to open presents!

There were so many presents but at 10pm we had opened the last ones. Good because the princess and little man were both struggling staying awake. Did they sleep-in this morning? No of course not.... 7.20 up we got and wow...... Look at all the presents from the English lot. Apparently Father Christmas spotted them at Nana's when he delivered their presents, then kindly flew back to Denmark and left them under our tree for us to open today. How lucky we are...!
The princess and little man have enjoyed playing with all their new things all day.

We got some lovely presents from the two of them.
Merry Christmas to you all.

It's Christmas Eve.

Yeah.... That's the big day in Denmark or should I say evening because nothing really happens before dinner time! So we're still waiting.... Not the best for the children who have to wait a whole day to get their presents. Luckily the princess and little man are good at the waiting. They woke early today but have so far happily been playing, watching tv and have now gone to the playground with daddy.
The daddy just sent this picture....

There were some exciting things in their stockings this morning which were used straight away. Clever little elf that choose that!

The little man made this and below is what the princess made!

We're spending Christmas Eve at my sister's, which means no cooking for me! I guess that's why I have time to write about it on Christmas Eve! When the little man and princess come back from the playground soon, they'll have a bath and be dressed up in nice clothes, told to be good, say thank you and smile! Then we're ready so let the party begin!

We'll listen out for the bell later, then look in the garden. Was it Father Christmas?? Did he leave a present? Don't worry, I'll let you know!

Merry Christmas.

What celebrity would you invite to Christmas dinner?

You can only choose one. Without hesitation the daddy answered Jim Carey. Reason? He would annoy half the people at the table, the other half finding him hilarious! The daddy obviously being part of the last half.

Who would I like to have around for Christmas dinner? I cannot answer just like that.... It takes a lot of consideration! Do I choose an actor/actress? Or footballer? Singer? Honestly this is not easy. No, I have to go for funny. Therefore... Phil Dunphy, the dad in Modern Family, I would invite. Yes, the character. Reason? He's so funny.

What celebrity would you invite over for Christmas dinner and why?

Last day....

... not literally of course! Last day at school and nursery, from tommorrow it's holiday and only 3 more days to Christmas! (we celebrate on the 24th in Denmark) Like the little man puts it. " Today there's 3 days to Christmas  and the day after today there's 2 days and the day after that day there's 1 day!" He can say the word tommorrow but  apparently doesn't see the need to!
Yesterday we went to mormor's (Grandma's) house in the afternoon to have æbleskiver and bake pebernødder (again no translation exists!) It's little biscuits. You roll them neatly and bake them.

Straight or curly hair!

The princess has the most beautiful blond and straight hair.
Girls/women all over the world use hours getting straight hair like this. It's also thick. yes I know, she's a very lucky girl. But aged 6 she's not happy.... She wants curly hair! The easiest way to get that at her age, is to plait it while it's wet and let it dry. Saturday we did just that. After hours at Dino Land and a good night's sleep her hair finally curled!
Here she is with plaits, playing on one of the fantastic (and free) retro video games at Dino Land. The daddy had a great time showing all the games he used to play, and apparently was very good at as well he told them!
Here she is with curls...Cute, isn't she?

Pre Christmas presents and Æbleskiver (sorry, no translation available)

I'll start with showing you what Æbleskiver are then.
You eat them hot with jam and sugar. The princess, little man and the daddy loves them. The daddy explaining what they are: "Like a pancake ball" Hmmm... actually a good explanation! They're really yummy and very Christmassy...! We were spoilt today with æbleskiver, homemade biscuits, lots of sweets and pre Christmas presents at Aunty's (my aunty really but we all call her that). The princess and little man were straight away playing with their lovely pre Christmas presents when we got back home.

The little man finished his bear (with help from the princess) and was very proud!

Dino Land here we come....

"Are they real Dinosaurs' from the olden days?" "No, honey these are pretend ones" We are in Dino Land, a newly opened big indoor softplay very near to where we live. We've been missing such a place ever since we left London. Now we are lucky to have this fantastic place nearby. The little man and the princess had such a fantastic time there today. So if you're ever on holiday in Denmark then this place is worth a visit! http://www.dinoslegeland.dk/
We took a nice picnic with us, found a place to sit then let the children run wild!

For a handicable parent like me, it was easy to get around and safe enough for even me with my stupid legs and the stick!
More excitement when we got back this afternoon. In the postbox were two letters from Father Christmas, one for the princes and one for the little man. They were so excited to get a reply!

Like Mother Like Daugther....

These are the princess' favourite jeans. She wears them with t-shirts, shirts and tunica's. As much as I of course would like her to look all cute, neat and girly, she's only 6, I do agree with her. They are cool and she looks very cool in them! I can't really blame her either, she takes after me. My favourite jeans when I was young were a pair very similar to the princess' pair. My mum wasn't too happy about me wearing them (which of course made me wear them all the time) but do I want to be like my mum? No, I'm a cool mummy, sure I am.... So of course my princess can wear her jeans with holes in!

" Do they know it's Christmas? "

Just saw the Glee Cast sing my favourite Christmas song. Now I don't know which version I love the most. Both make me cry all the way through the song. Want to hear it??
The children in the video are so sweet and sorry Bono, Mercedes just sang your line in the song (sorry again) and sang it even better, I think. I love her voice!

Colds...

What's worse? The stuffed nose that make you speak in a funny (annoying) voice? Or the tickly cough which makes you bark every time you breath in but never gives you any relief. No temperature, so you're not really ill, it's just a cold. Night time's not the best as the second you lie down, coughing starts and continues on and off through out the night. The princess, little man and I are all having a cold. I guess the good thing is, that when eventually the cold disappears again (in March, no hopefully sooner!) that's it for now and we got it over and done with in one go. Until the daddy of course gets the worst cold of the centry, as men tend to do. But hopefully  the rest of us are immune to it!

There's a storm trying to knock little Denmark over!

Since yesterday afternoon the wind has been loud, angry and very strong. Our trampoline is still standing in the garden though, not because it's tied to something to prevent it from flying away which would have been the sensible thing to do, but because we're lucky the wind comes from the other side so the fence is in the way!
Well, enough about the storm. In the middle of the night the fairy delivered our Christmas tree. When we woke up this morning it was very bright in the living room. It was the lights on the tree. The princess and little man got very excited. When they came back from school and nursery, we all decorated the tree.
Fairy at the top and beautiful lights.
Muffin straight away decided to make 'under the tree' her new place to lay.

Tree finished!

Mummy is a dinosaur!

.... exclaimed the little man at dinner. Well, thank you darling, I guess....!? Can I at least choose which dinosaur?

The princess, the little man and their daddy were guessing how old people are. A game their daddy loves as he can mention again and again that I am older than him (but I still look very young which might be why he has to mention it, as I look a lot younger than him). I'm not that much older but apparently worth mentioning if you ask him. Obviously he has told the princess and the little man more than once how mummy is older than daddy, not bigger, as in taller, but older! This then resulted in the little man calling me (his dear mummy) a dinosaur!

Pairs.

That's a game we play a lot. The princess has a photographic memory and the little man takes after her. The daddy and I rarely win, no seriously we don't and it's not because we let them win. I am way too competitive, so is the daddy and they might as well learn the hard way!
When Nana was here a couple of weeks ago we played Pairs a lot. Nana was easily defeated as well but that was not what made the princess and little man roll around the floor laughing. Every time Nana didn't get a pair she would say "poo" Oh.... that's a bit naughty and the laughter would take a while to stop!
Being a Nana you are allowed to teach your grandchildren these little things. Now when we play Pairs "poo" is said with a giggle everytime the princess or little man do not get a pair.
This is our favourite Pairs game. The princess got it for her first birthday from morfar (grandad).

Norway out of butter.....

... it's true. http://www.newsinenglish.no/2011/12/06/butter-shortage-keeps-spreading/ It's all over the news here in Denmark and a collection of butter is going on here, which will then be transported to Norway. Apperently people in Norway offer beers in exchange for butter so if you're going to Norway in the near future, bring butter!

This is not the first time Norway has run out of things. Years ago they ran out of toilet paper! It's true... http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=story_10-5-2004_pg9_3 Again Denmark organised a collection of toilet paper which was transported to Norway. Don't think they got any beers in exchange though.

The Break Up, Dinner Scene!

Please spend the next 3 minutes and 10 seconds of your life to enjoy this very funny scene. If you haven't seen the film The Break Up it doesn't matter. You can still enjoy this. Trust me it is very funny.

Music Monday Christmas songs!

My absolute favourite Christmas song is this. I can't listen to it without crying. I love it (and to be honeste, I listen to it all year around) It has to be this version though. Not just because of the fantastic hairstyles!

It's done....

...it really is! All the Christmas presents are bought. Yep, all of them... You don't believe me? Well, there are benefits with being disabled and having families in 2 countries. We shop nearly all online, it's easy, stress free, no queues, it's fun and we're enjoying having time to pick just the right present for everyone. This year we're in Denmark for Christmas and the English lot's presents are all done. I know, they're not wrapped in fine Christmas wrapping paper but there is a name on every present, and a brown soft envulope is just what you call "unique" wrapping! Actually the Danish lot's presents are done too and as we're here this year, they do get wrapped but not in "unique" wrapping!
This weekend the princess and the little man, with their daddy's help, have written their letters to Father Christmas. Wonder if their wishes come true....?
What do you wish for??
I wish for no snow, apart for the 23, 24, 25, 26th of December, snow and me with my stick and not too good walking is a bad combo.... Oh and an Ipad2 would be nice!
Just as a foot-note, here's what the princess said today looking at the computer about to play a game. "I can see the voice but I can't hear it talking...??" That sounded to us like "The lights are on, but no-one's home"!!!

"All I want for Christmas is me 2 front teeth!"

Yep the second one fell out today (about time as it has been hanging in one tiny thread for a while) and the princess now looks like this.
By the way, she still got all her hair despite my concern yesterday at the Lucia party at school. All 29 children walked carefully and very proudly with their candles.
So concentrated she was that she forgot to sing (and smile) but so cute though!
